Debbie Cook City of Huntington Beach, CA Debbie Cook has served seven years on the Huntington Beach City Council. She is currently serving on the Southern California Association of Governments Regional Council, SCAG Energy and Environment Committee (Chair), San Diego Association of Governments Borders Committee, Orange County Parks Commission (Chair), and Pacific Cable Television Authority. Her experience has also included positions on the California Desalination Task Force, Orange County Sanitation District, President of the Orange County Division of the League of California Cities, League of California Cities Administrative Policy Committee (Chair) and Environmental Quality Policy Committee. Debbie serves on the board of directors for the Association for the Study of Peak Oil and Gas (ASPO-USA) and Post Carbon Institute. She is actively involved in educating the public and policy makers about the risks and vulnerabilities from the inevitable peaking of global oil production and the resultant challenges for local government and its citizens. Debbie holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Earth Science from Cal State Long Beach, a Jurisdoctorate from Western State College of Law, and a license to practice law in California. She is also a graduate of the Kennedy School of Government National Preparedness Leadership Initiative, Great Valley Leadership Initiative, and Leadership Southern California. Debbie is a 42 year resident of Orange County. Prior to her election she served on the Bolsa Chica Land Trust legal team that set precedent in protecting coastal habitat. She also made history in Huntington Beach in 1990 by successfully qualifying a Charter Amendment that protects public beach and parkland from sale, lease, or commercialization without voter approval.

Keith Bohr Mayor Pro TemKeith Bohr has lived in Huntington Beach since 1987 when he came here after completing his graduate work at Arizona State University. His first job was working for the City of Huntington Beach in Economic Development Department. He worked primarily on downtown redevelopment.After working for the City eight years, Keith joined the private sector working as a real estate consultant, broker, property manager and small, infill real estate developer. He is active in various community groups including Orangewood Children’s Foundation, the Sister City Association of Huntington Beach and Huntington Valley Boys & Girls Club. He is also a graduate of the HB Citizen’s Police Academy.Keith Bohr was elected to the City Council in November of 2004. He serves on the City’s Communications Committee and Intergovernmental Relations Committee. He is a council liaison to the Environmental Board, Fourth of July Board, Specific Events Committee, Personnel Commission and Youth Board. Joe Carchio Council MemberJoe Carchio has been a resident of Huntington Beach since 1979. He was born and raised in New Jersey and is currently the owner of Jersey Joe’s Italian Restaurant. Joe attended Pennsylvania Military College and Seton Hall University. He also served in the United States Army in the Special Services Unit of the 3rd Armored Calvary.Before being elected to office, Joe owned a clothing company and Bella Luna Restaurant. He also coached varsity basketball for 15 years and football for 10 years at Ocean View High School.Joe is serving his first term on the City Council after being elected in November of 2006. As a City Council Member, Joe is serving as a liaison to the Citizens Participation Advisory Board, Community Services Commission, Library Board, and the Neighborhood Watch. He is also a City Council liaison on the Oakview Task Force, Santa Ana River blue ribbon Committee, Southeast Area Committee, California Coastal Coalition Board, and the Huntington Beach Business and Government Relations Committee.Joe is married to Valerie and they have eight children and ten grandchildren. Cathy Green Cathy Green has called Huntington Beach home since 1970. Her extensive community involvement includes serving as a founding member of Amigos de Bolsa Chica, President of the Therapeutic Riding Center, volunteering as the First Aid Coordinator for the Huntington Beach Community Emergency Response Team, and sitting on the board of the Huntington Beach Community Clinic. In 1998, Cathy was named Huntington Beach Citizen of the Year and in 1999 she was honored as Huntington Beach Soroptimist’s Woman of Distinction. Cathy was elected to the City Council in 2002. Cathy works as a Patient Advocate and holds degrees in both law and nursing. She gained experience working on a variety of environmental and construction projects while working for Lockhart and Associates. As a nurse, she has worked in the area of Intensive Care, Student Health, Community Health and Patient Advocacy. Cathy is married to former Huntington Beach Mayor Peter Green, they have two grown children, Teresa and Tom. |

Don Hansen Council MemberDonald F. Hansen, Jr. is the Vice President of the Commercial Finance Division of Balboa Capital Corporation. Balboa Capital Corporation is privately-owned finance company that provides equipment financing to entrepreneurial businesses. He was appointed to the Public Works Commission in 2002 then appointed to the Finance Board. He was elected to the City Council in November of 2004.Don attended the University of Southern California and holds a degree in International Relations. He is a member of the Huntington Beach Rotary Club and St. Simon and Jude Church. He serves on the Allied Arts Board, the Community Services Commission and the Library Board for the City.Don and Sara Hansen have one daughter and one son. Jill Hardy Council MemberJill Hardy is a fourth-generation resident of Huntington Beach. She earned a BA in Economics/Mathematics from UC Santa Barbara in 1992 and completed her MA in Economics at CSU Long Beach in 2002. In addition to serving on the City Council, Jill teaches mathematics, economics, and Model United Nations at Huntington Beach High School. She was married to Greg in the summer of 2005.Before her election to the City Council in 2002, Jill served Huntington Beach as a member of the Planning Commission. She has been active in many community organizations such as Huntington Beach Tomorrow and the Bolsa Chica Land Trust.As a Council Member, Jill is serving as the liaison to the Historic Resources Board and the Youth Board. She is a member of the following City Council committees: Historic Resources Board; Youth Board; Beautification, Landscape, & Tree; Intergovernmental Relations; Sister City Association; Economic Development Committee; Sister City Association; and Southeast Area. City Council Member Gil Coerper has lived in Huntington Beach since 1959. He has two sons and has been married to Louann since 1973. He has an AA Degree from Golden West College and has earned over 160 units toward his BA at Cal State Long Beach. He has also earned certification in a variety of areas relating to his work as a Police Officer and in his service in the United States Navy and California Military Reserves, which is under the direction of the California Army National Guard. Gil retired as a Lt. Colonel. Gil has spent most of his life in public service; first in the Navy then as a Police Officer, devoting 39 years of service to the Huntington Beach Police Force before retiring in June of 2002. He is a past president of the Huntington Beach Police Officers’ Association and a retired member of the Police Officer Research Association of California (PORAC). He currently serves on the California Police Officers Memorial Foundation as an advisor. In addition to his professional associations, Gil has received an Award of Merit and the Silver Beaver in March 2004, which is the highest award given from the Boy Scouts of America for his many years of work with the Boys Scouts and his present leadership with his Military Boy Scouts Explorer Post based at Los Alamitos. He is also an advisor on the Executive Board of the Huntington Beach Search and Rescue Explorer Post. Gil is currently an area representative for the United States Military Academy at West Point, assigned to the areas of Los Angeles & Orange County. He also is presently appointed to the Military Selection Committee for Congressman Dana Rohrabacher of the California 46th District for students interested in attending any of the Military Academies. |
